Raindrop Detection Sensor Module
Build your own weather station or automated systems with this versatile Raindrop Detection Sensor Module. This complete kit is designed to detect rain, water presence, or even surface moisture levels, making it an excellent tool for a wide range of electronics projects, from home automation to environmental monitoring.
The system works with two main components: a large sensing pad and a control module. The sensing pad has a series of exposed, nickel-plated conductive traces. When raindrops or water bridge these traces, the pad’s overall resistance decreases. The control module, built around an LM393 comparator, reads this change in resistance and provides two types of outputs: a simple digital signal and a variable analog signal.
The digital output (DO) goes high or low when the moisture level crosses a threshold that you can set using the onboard potentiometer. The analog output (AO) provides a voltage that is inversely proportional to the amount of water on the pad—more water means lower resistance and a higher analog voltage. This allows you to not just detect rain, but also estimate its intensity.
Key Features:
- Dual Output Mode: Provides both digital (DO) and analog (AO) outputs for flexible project integration.
- Adjustable Sensitivity: An onboard potentiometer allows you to fine-tune the trigger threshold for the digital output.
- Operating Voltage: Works with a wide voltage range from 3.3V to 5V, compatible with most microcontrollers.
- Complete Kit: Includes the rain sensing board, the control module, and 5 female-to-female jumper wires for easy connection.
- Corrosion Resistant: The sensor pad surface is nickel-plated for enhanced durability and longevity against oxidation.
Applications:
This sensor is ideal for creating automated systems such as car wipers that activate when it rains, smart home setups that automatically close windows, DIY weather stations for data logging, intelligent irrigation systems for agriculture, and leak detection alarms for basements or server rooms.
